GreenBoost4WISEs - European Project Awarded to Recycle IT

In 2024, Recycle IT successfully applied to participate in the GreenBoost4WISEs project. This project operates in partnership with Irish Social Enterprise Network, ReUse Austria and social enterprises from Belgium, Ireland, and Italy with a focus on labour market integration. This collaboration is focused on helping these social enterprises adopt greener practices leading to increased sustainable. By sharing knowledge and resources, the project aims to support the green transformation in partner organisations. All partners are committed to taking steps and introducing solution to making a positive environmental impact in their organisations and for the communities they serve. Recycle IT are delighted to be taking part.

Recycle IT wins National Environmental Award.

The Pakman Awards 2023, operated by Repak, are the national environmental awards that recognise excellence in sustainability, recycling and waste management among businesses, organisations, and community groups in Ireland.

Recycle IT is a community recycler led by a volunteer broad. The team at Recycle IT offer a range of recycling services and initiatives in the community while also increasing awareness of the importance of recycling.

This Community Recycling Initiative Award, sponsored by The Department of Environment, Climate and Communications recognises dedication to transforming waste management and recycling infrastructure for local communities.

Over the last 3 years, Recycle IT have worked with South Dublin County Council to help to safely recycle mattresses of all sizes during 8 – 10-week period between August and October. The service is offered at no cost and saved household mattresses from potential incineration. They are broken down for component reuse. This community recycling initiative is successfully operated alongside our electrical, electronic, and metal recycling services.

Recycle IT has been operating for over 20 years and is staffed by committed team of fourteen. The core team is ably supported by community employment, and TUS participants, all with an interested learning new skills which can be transferred into full time employment opportunities. Winning this Repak Award is a great endorsement for the whole team at Recycle IT, it gives a boost to employees, places a value on our work, increases our profile, and encourages recycling in the communities we serve. Dublin City Social Enterprise Awards 2022

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Recycle IT has been selected as a 2022 Dublin City Social Enterprise Award recipient. This award is given annually to Dublin based Social Enterprises that demonstrate they are actively working to address important issues and achieve a social, societal, or environmental impact, rather than maximising profits for owners or shareholders.

It is a prestigious honour and serves to recognise the valuable work carried out by social enterprise in areas including sustainability, biodiversity, employment, education attainment, diversity, inclusion, addiction, refugee welfare, health, mental health, homelessness, accessibility, ex-offender reintegration and more.


The six awardees received a bespoke award trophy which was handmade by House of AKI-NA, a local social enterprise and previous awardee. Funding was also awarded which will help organisations development and achieve a greater impact among the individuals and communities served.

Recycle IT is absolutely delighted to announce our organisation has been shortlisted for the Sustainable Business Impact Awards 2022 operated by Chambers Ireland supported by Department of Rural and Community Development and BAM Ireland.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are at the heart of these Awards, celebrating sustainable business practices and championing Chambers Ireland’s alignment with the Goals.

For us, it is recognition that our work promoting and offering recycling opportunities, our standards, our customer service, and a focus on supporting employment in the sector is to be recognised.

Being shortlisted is great for team morale and really emphasizes our passion and experience within the social enterprise and waste management sectors. Everyone in the team has contributed to the success of our entry and the success of our social enterprise!

Recycle IT are proud to be recipients of a funding awarded under the Social Enterprise Development Fund 2021 which is managed and promoted by Rethink Ireland.

Recycle IT: Awarded Rethink Ireland Funding in 2021

 

The fund was created by Rethink Ireland in partnership with Local Authorities Ireland and funded by IPB Insurance and the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Dormant Accounts Fund. Recycle IT will receive a cash award and business supports to help expand our social and community impact. The award was made following a successful application and interview process.

Further Accomplishments

  • 2020 – Awarded Kickstart Funding. This funding was made available through an application process and supports social enterprises create and sustain employment opportunities for people with a criminal conviction who find it difficult to access the labour market. The funding award was received from the Irish Probation Service through the Dormant Accounts Fund.

  • 2019 – Awarded the accolade of “WEEE Recycling Champion 2019” by Repak.

  • 2019 – Selected as “Best Not-For-Profit Organisation” finalist at the South County Dublin Business Awards arranged by South Dublin Chamber and South Dublin County Council.

  • 2019 – Winner at the JCI Friendly Business Awards for Dublin in the category, Eco-Friendliness.

  • 2019 – Awarded by Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) for engagement with the Students Learning with Communities Programme. 

  • 2018 – Selected as “Best Small Business” finalist at the South County Dublin Business Awards arranged by South Dublin Chamber and South Dublin County Council.

  • 2018 - Chosen as a finalist in the Repak Pakman Awards category “WEEE Champion.”

  • 2018 - Commended for our ongoing Residents Electrical Recycling Initiatives by Chambers Ireland. (CSR Awards).

  • 2017 - Named by Repak as Community Recycling Project of the Year 2017. (Pakman Awards).

  • 2017 - Commended for Community Recycling by Chambers Ireland. (CSR Awards).

  • 2017 - Named as a Green Award Finalist in the category Green NGO of the Year 2017.

  • 2016 - Awarded for Environmental Education and Awareness Initiatives by Repak. (Pakman Awards).

  • 2016 - Selected as Eco-Friendly Business of the Year by JCI Ireland. This award was achieved at both regional and national level. 

  • 2016 - Achieved Age Friendly Ireland status in 2016 and shortlisted for an Age Friendly Business Award.
